Winifred Flato Simon
I am a fine arts photographer living in Wimberley, Texas since 2000 after moving here from Austin. Photography has been my passion since I received my first camera, a Brownie Hawkeye when I was seven years old. Even though I was experienced in darkroom developing and printing, I completely embraced digital photography when it became available. The control it gives a photographer is limited only by one’s imagination.
In 2013 my first book, Wimberley Women, Perfecting the Art of Aging, was published. It featured 23 women in Wimberley between the ages of 65 and 90 who each wrote about their lives and experiences of aging and whom I photographed. In 2016 Wimberley, Texas, A Portrait of Our Valley was published. More than 200 photographs of the people and places of Wimberley were accompanied by “why I love Wimberley” stories from 27 residents. This book is truly a community scrapbook of a moment in time.
I am honored to be a part of the Bold Beauty Project. It is extremely powerful and moving for all involved in it’s creation. I wish to applaud the brave women who agreed to share their stories and their images in such inspiring ways. wsimonphotography.com
